During the HeSapa Wacipi Black Hills Pow Wow this past weekend, Native Women's Society of the Great Plains program membership participated in domestic violence awareness events.
More than 300 people visited the NWSGP awareness booth and were given domestic and sexual violence, stalking, teen dating violence information along with gift incentives.
Wopila (thank you) to the women who came and helped with the awareness at the Black Hills Pow Wow over the weekend. Amanda Takes War Bonnett, NWSGP communication specialist said, "Even one person reading a message on a t-shirt, means you did awareness, you sent a message to someone's brain."
Women of the membership programs walked in the Saturday parade, Black Hills Indigenous Peoples Day Parade with their colorful awareness banners and t-shirts.
They also participated in Friday evening's grand entry of the Black Hills Pow Wow, carrying the red silhouettes images of women who died or were hurt in acts of domestic violence.
