Shelter Training for advocates held in Newtown, ND

NWSGP and Three Affiliated Tribes Victim Services hosted a three-day of 16 hours of shelter training in New Town, ND on June 16 to 18. Staff from Native Women’s Society of the Great Plains taught the course on Shelter Advocacy Training in Indian Country.
The training focused on understanding the relatives they serve, root causes, roles as a shelter advocate, self-care, knowing your shelter and organization, programing and services. Participates were able to tour the TAT Victim Service’s shelter and program offices on their services, policies and community relationships. TAT Victim Services in located on the Fort Berthold reservation and serves the surrounding area.
Attending were advocates from Omaha Tribe, Fort Berthold, Lower Brule, Northern Cheyenne, Fort Peck, Crow and Fort Berthold domestic and sexual violence programs.
